First American Cat Lady

Over the last year and a half, I’ve been working through various lines of my family tree.

On two separate occasions, I’ve found someone who was on the Mayflower. One was the 17th signer.

The other was a couple with two children. The woman is a great-aunt. It’s unclear if the two children are actually hers or if she was the man’s second wife. Old records, you know. A single fire in a single church wipes out the records for every family in the region.

It has long been supposed that the first two cats that were to become the American Domestic Short Hair were aboard the Mayflower. Indeed, it makes sense that they would bring a cat or two at least to control the rats and mice on the ship.

So what does this mean?

It means that I may actually be related to the first American Cat Lady.
